Rules
To have an organized and fair event we ask that you not climb at Vertical Endeavors
in Duluth December 3th and 4th if you are planning on competing. The reason for this
is we will be setting routes for the comp on these days.
We would like everyone to have equal knowledge of the routes. If you do choose to
climb at VE on either of those days you CANNOT climb the routes tagged as comp routes. If
you do, you will not be allowed to compete. In addition to this, please read the rules below.
- All faces are on-route for all routes, unless otherwise stated.
- The climber must begin and end the route under control. "Jump Starts"
are not allowed. The climber just show control on the finish hold. This
is at the belayer's discretion.
- Climbers must climb from start to finish unassited by the rope to score points.
- If a climber goes off route or weights the rope, he/she must come down.
No points will be awarded.
- A “natural” is considered a permanent feature on the wall.
Any cracks, pockets, bulges are all considered naturals.
If a natural is on-route it will be marked individually or on the route’s tag.
- The belayer must check every climber to see if his/her knot is correct and harness is secure.
- Start and finish holds will be marked with two pieces of tape.
All other holds will be marked with a single piece of tape.
If any tape is pulled off of the route let someone know immediately.
- The only information the belayer can give a climber is whever or not
a hold is on route.
- Spectators cannot give information to the climber while he/she is climbing.
It's distracting to the other climbers.
- Belayers will provide a loose belay. This means the rope will be slack enough
for the climber to move freely and not potentially be pulled off the wall.
- Shirt must stay on.
- Profanity must not be used.
- The belayer has the final say.
- The belayer's decisions are final
The following is information about the scorecards. Climbers should be aware how
the scorecards are used in order to be sure everything is correct.
- A mark shall be made for every attempt made on a route; not for
every fall. This means there should be at least one mark for every route
a climber does.
- When a climber succeeds at a route, a score appropriate for the number of
attempts shall be written in along with the belayer's initials.
